Early swimming lessons promote cognitive growth.

When your baby uses both sides of their body in the same action, they are practicing what’s called bilateral cross-patterning movements. This activity has been shown to build neurons across the brain, particularly in the corpus callosum, which connects and enables communication between the left and right cerebral hemispheres.

This growth facilitates the development of crucial higher brain functions, and has been linked to improved spatial awareness, linguistic and academic development and reading later in life.

Baby-parent swimming classes at First Swim will give you a unique opportunity to deepen the connection with your child as the water provides physical closeness and emotional security.

Being safely held by a parent, adding the sensation of skin touches skin and heart close to heart, provides a deep sense of belonging and creates a unique and enjoyable experience between parent and baby.

Being together with your baby in warm water offers a wonderful window of opportunity to be truly present and see what unfolds in the water, an opportunity to study your baby’s nonverbal signals and test your ability to respond accordingly.

This is one of the most powerful and meaningful times in which a strong bond can be strengthened in an enjoyable way. After all what is more enjoyable than being a mirror to your baby's giggles and movements!

Baby swimming is not only a fun, life-saving activity, but it has a myriad of benefits for a very young child’s development. Baby swim classes can help a child to improve socially, emotionally, and physically. It can also help increase a baby’s alertness, intelligence, and concentration abilities. Through interaction in a swim class a child learns to develop confidence, self-esteem, and independence.

SAFETY:
Safety skills are usually the primary reason why many parents enroll their babies in swim lessons. By learning these safety skills, not only is early swimming life enhancing, it can be lifesaving. The earlier a child can begin their swimming adventure, the sooner the child will be able to build a foundation to perform water safety swimming and floating skills.

We were really hoping to open our doors in Sandyfo

We were really hoping to open our doors in Sandyford in late March but we have had a few construction delays which unfortunately is going to push our launch date out by a few weeks. It's a bit frustrating as our swim team can't wait to meet you and your little ones.

Opening in Sandyford in Spring 2023, First Swim will be Ireland's first purpose-built baby & toddler swim school teaching pre-school children from 3 months to 4 year old.

We know 'Spring' is a loose term for March, April and May, which may seem vague, however we want to be confident that when we announce our opening date, it's a date we can fully commit to.

Our facility has been designed with children in mind so you can be sure that every thought has gone into making First Swim the most comfortable baby friendly experience out there. Classes will be run in our own onsite heated pool with a viewing gallery for guests or family to watch the fun. Our changing rooms are warm & spacious and equipped with everything you could need for your visit.

We have a customer-only cafe where you can relax before or after your class and enjoy a barista coffee & snack brought to your table. The cafe has free WIFI, plenty of baby feeding chairs, bottle warming stations and a microwave to heat your babies food.

Parental connections are at the heart of everything we do at First Swim which is why our child friendly cafe is so important. Here you can sit back, relax and unwind with friends or family, before or after a swim session, and enjoy great barista coffee.

Our customer-only cafe design has been carefully crafted with no sharp edges, easy to use highchairs and comfortable adult seating. For all other feeding needs, we’ve got you covered with multiple bottle warming stations and a microwave to warm up food for your baby.

Our centre will be a social hub for parents to meet others with children of a similar age away from the hustle & bustle of the world outside. It’s a space to catch up with old friends or make new connections with super-fast free WIFI.

First Swim is Irelands first purpose-built baby & toddler swim school in Sandyford. Opening in late March 2023, we will run swim classes for ages 3 months to 4 years old in our onsite heated swimming pool.
